IHG's customer-care FAQ says reservations can be made up to 50 weeks in advance for all room rates, including Reward Nights. That gives a clear horizon for a hotel search, but it does not promise a reward room at every property on every date in that window.
A booking window is most useful when connected to the rest of the journey. Check the hotel dates beside flight availability, a cruise's boarding day and any event that drives demand. Each part can open for booking on a different schedule.
Search the complete stay
Enter the actual arrival and departure dates, traveler count and room needs. A single night appearing in a search does not prove that the full stay can be booked with the same room and terms. Keep the total points and remaining cash charges in view.
Use our Reward Night remaining-charge guide and the fourth-night benefit guide when comparing the whole reservation. A card benefit or quoted nightly rate should be checked against the exact stay you intend to reserve.
Keep a practical alternative
If the desired reward is not available, compare suitable hotels and cash rates rather than assuming the program's window guarantees that a room will appear later. Note which alternatives offer acceptable occupancy, location and cancellation terms.
The Choice 50-week booking guide is a useful comparison. Two programs can share a headline booking horizon while offering different room types, prices and terms. The Hyatt date-pricing guide adds another reason to inspect the actual travel dates.
For a cruise departure, use Cruise Frog’s port directory to connect the hotel with the correct terminal. For a flight connection, Lounge Frog’s airport directory helps identify the airport rather than relying on a hotel's city label alone.
Read the deadline before reserving
A distant travel date does not remove the need to check cancellation terms. Record the reservation's actual deadline and penalty when you book. Set a reminder ahead of that deadline, particularly if other parts of the trip remain uncertain.
Our Points & Cash cancellation guide explains why a mixed-payment booking has its own refund treatment. The annual-free-night guide helps distinguish a certificate from a normal points-funded reservation. Do not assume those tools all have the same validity or cancellation terms.
Watch changes without abandoning a room too quickly
Recheck a flexible reservation if the trip or price changes. A new search result should be compared with what you hold: dates, occupants, room and remaining cash cost. A cheaper result for an unsuitable alternative is not a saving on the same stay.
The Marriott repricing checklist provides a way to structure the comparison without substituting Marriott's procedure for IHG's. Keep the original booking in view until you understand the program-specific change process and availability risk.
Finish with a coordinated itinerary
Save the hotel confirmation with the travel documents for the wider journey. Make sure the arrival date matches the local date after the flight, and that checkout leaves enough time to reach the next departure. A calendar entry is more useful when it includes these practical details.
Use our program directory for the currencies involved in the rest of the trip. The 50-week window helps you know when to look. A suitable room, acceptable terms and a workable route are what make the eventual reservation useful.
