IHG’s fourth reward night free: check the card benefit, not just hotel status

The eligible cardholder benefit can reduce a four-night points stay; an IHG elite tier alone does not establish it.

Loyalty programs · By Points Frog Editorial ·

IHG's fourth-reward-night-free benefit is associated with eligible credit-card terms. It should not be treated as a general benefit earned simply by joining IHG One Rewards or holding hotel elite status. The card, account and eligible reservation need to match.

Confirm the benefit in the signed-in quote

Chase's current IHG Premier benefits page describes the fourth reward night free when points are redeemed for a stay of four or more nights. Check the exact card product and its current rules. Do not extend one product's conditions to every IHG-branded card or to future benefit years.

Search the full consecutive stay while signed into the account linked to the card. Review the total and nightly breakdown before confirming. A four-night hotel visit partly paid with other types of awards is not automatically the same as an eligible four-night points stay.

Compare a useful fourth day

Suppose four eligible reward nights each show 30,000 points before the benefit. The simple example would use 90,000 points if the fourth night is removed. A three-night trip at the same price also uses 90,000 points. The extra hotel night can then add accommodation without extra points.

The extra day can still cost money. If later flights cost $100 more and meals cost another $80, staying longer adds $180. The reward is useful if that day is part of the vacation you want. It is not automatically a saving if you would otherwise leave earlier.

If the benefit does not appear, contact the issuer or IHG before making an irreversible funding decision. Keep the card terms and booking quote. A status badge alone is not the evidence needed to prove this particular price reduction.

Search four consecutive nights for the exact hotel and room rather than adding several one-night screenshots. Compare the benefit reflected in the final reservation with the advertised card description. If one night requires a different room type, review the whole booking. A benefit tied to an eligible card needs the correct account and a qualifying reservation to have practical value.

A practical way to decide

Start with a room or flight you would be happy to buy with cash. Match the dates, traveler count and cancellation terms before comparing prices. A cheaper award that changes your plans is a different product. Give that change a cost instead of treating it as a free improvement.

For a points comparison, subtract the award's cash charges from the cash price you would otherwise pay. Divide that saving by the points used. This gives a useful measure of the booking in front of you. It is not a promise about what the same points will buy next month. Compare the result with the next realistic use of your balance.

Keep planning
