InstaVolt drivers can now turn charging rewards into Virgin Points

From Nov. 2, UK drivers can move InstaVolt Miles Volts to Virgin Red at one to one. Each Volt is also worth 1p as charging credit, so that is the bar to beat.

UK electric car drivers have a new way to earn Virgin Points. Starting Nov. 2, 2026, InstaVolt lets drivers move the reward points they earn while charging into Virgin Red, Virgin's rewards club.

The rate is one to one. One InstaVolt reward point, called a Volt, becomes one Virgin Point. Those points can then go toward Virgin Atlantic reward seats, Virgin Voyages sailings and Virgin Hotels stays.

How InstaVolt Miles works

InstaVolt calls itself the UK's largest ultra-rapid charging network. In its Nov. 2 announcement, it said it has more than 4,000 chargers at 1,200 sites.

Its rewards program, InstaVolt Miles, started in October. It is free. Anyone who uses the InstaVolt app is enrolled on their own, with no sign-up and no subscription.

Drivers earn Volts for every £1 they spend charging through the app. The rate depends on which of the four tiers you are in. InstaVolt says the off-peak rate of 55p per kWh, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., earns the same Volts per £1 as daytime charging.

The choice: charging credit or Virgin Points

Each Volt has a set cash value inside InstaVolt. Used as charging credit, one Volt is worth 1p. That gives you a simple test.

If you move Volts to Virgin Red, you should expect to get more than 1p of value from each Virgin Point. Otherwise, the charging credit is the better deal. It also has no booking rules or blackout dates to worry about.

Virgin Points can be worth more than 1p when you use them for Virgin Atlantic reward flights. That is because the cash price of a long-haul flight can be high. Keep in mind that taxes, fees and carrier charges apply to Virgin Atlantic reward flights, as Virgin notes in its own offers.

For small rewards, such as cinema tickets or a meal out, the math can be closer. Check the points price against the cash price before you move a balance.

What Virgin Points can buy

Virgin Red has hundreds of rewards, according to InstaVolt. The release lists:

  • Virgin Atlantic reward seats and upgrades
  • Caribbean sailings with Virgin Voyages
  • Stays with the Virgin Hotels Collection
  • Cinema tickets and meals out
  • Days out with Virgin Experience Days

What the companies said

"With InstaVolt Miles, every charge earns them something back, whether that's money off their next charge or Virgin Points they can put towards anything from cinema trips and days out to holidays and experiences," said Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt.

Andrea Burchett, Chief Loyalty Officer for Virgin Group, said the partnership turns "regular charging stops into something to look forward to."

Who this is for

This is a UK offer. It only helps drivers who charge on the InstaVolt network and pay through its app.

For a driver who charges often, the points can add up. A driver who spends £100 a month at the lowest rate of one Volt per £1 would earn 1,200 Volts in a year. That is 1,200 Virgin Points, or £12 of charging credit. Higher tiers earn more, up to 15 Volts per £1.

It is a small stream of points for most people. But it costs nothing extra, and it gives Virgin Red members one more way to top up a balance.

Virgin Red is also running bonus points on train tickets and Booking.com stays through Nov. 30. Capital One cardholders in the US can move miles to Virgin Red with a 30% bonus through Nov. 20.
