The most urgent part of CommBank's rewards change may be the old points balance, rather than the new airline partners. If you are not eligible for CommBank Yello, the bank says you can request a cash conversion of unredeemed Awards points by December 31, 2026. I would check that status now, while there is time to resolve an account question.

The details are in CommBank's own transition explanation. The Awards program closed on September 29, with eligible members moving into the new Yello points system from October 1. Our launch report covers the broader changes.

Separate the two customer paths

For eligible customers, unredeemed Awards points convert one-for-one into Yello points. The bank says converted balances appear progressively in the app and NetBank. One-for-one migration describes the number of points moved; it does not promise that every redemption keeps the same value.

For customers who are not eligible, CommBank describes the December cash-request option. It also says points will be held for up to two years if no action is taken, during which they may be redeemed if the customer becomes eligible. I would ask the bank which path applies before assuming either a loss or an automatic cash payment.

Reconcile the balance

Save the final Awards balance, the Yello balance and the dates of any recent redemptions. Compare like with like. Pending transactions, a redemption in progress or a different account view can make a balance look wrong before you understand what has moved.

If something is missing, contact the bank through its authenticated app or published support route. Keep the reference number and a clear record of the discrepancy. There is no need to share a full account number or card details in a public points forum to ask a general question.

Airline transfers come after the account check

CommBank lists travel partners including Qantas, Velocity and Qatar Airways. The conversion rate depends on the redemption selected. Check the live rate and the required transfer amount before treating the Yello balance as airline miles.

Our Qantas calculator and Qatar Avios calculator can help compare a proposed booking. They cannot determine your bank eligibility or confirm an account-specific conversion. Those answers belong in the bank's terms and your account.

My priority would be preserving options

I would first confirm eligibility, then reconcile the migrated balance, then decide how to use it. Transferring to an airline simply because a new partner appears can leave you with miles and no suitable flight. A clear cash option may be more useful for someone who does not expect to travel.

Before the deadline, ask about any minimum, rate or processing condition attached to the cash request. Record the answer and submit through the official channel if that is your choice. This is a case where a short account check can matter more than chasing the most exciting redemption story.
