British Airways Holidays will pay 6 Avios per £1 from Nov. 24. BA's own example triples the haul

From November 24, packages earn Avios on the full price, split among travelers. In BA's Crete example, a couple's haul rises from 7,152 to 22,632 Avios.

British Airways Holidays is changing how its package trips earn Avios. From November 24, 2026, members of The British Airways Club will collect 6 Avios for every £1 spent on a British Airways Holidays package. The count is based on the total package price, not just the flights.

British Airways announced the change on October 21. Here is what it means and what those Avios are worth by our numbers.

What changes on November 24

Today, travelers on a package collect Avios on the flight part of the trip. The lead passenger can also collect 1 bonus Avios for every £1 spent on the package.

The new rule is simpler. The whole booking earns 6 Avios per £1. That total is then split equally between everyone on the booking.

Each Club member can take their own share. Or the group can pool its Avios through a free Household Account. British Airways says a Household Account can hold up to seven people, including children. Members still earn tier points one by one.

The Crete example, in numbers

British Airways gave its own example. It is a holiday package to Crete for two people at £1,886 each, or £3,772 in total.

Under the new rule, each traveler would collect 11,316 Avios. That is 22,632 Avios for the pair. Under the old rule, the lead booker would have collected 5,462 Avios and the second traveler 1,690 Avios, from the flights alone. That is 7,152 Avios in total.

So the same trip earns roughly three times as many Avios.

British Airways says the new total is enough for each traveler to book a one-way off-peak economy Reward Flight to Paris. That costs 10,000 Avios plus £2.50 per person in its example.

What the Avios are worth

Points Frog values Avios at 1.3 US cents each in our points value catalog. That is a typical travel redemption estimate, not a cash price.

At that rate, 6 Avios is worth about 7.8 cents. Using our exchange rate of about $1.35 per pound, each £1 spent returns about 5.8% in Avios value.

For the Crete trip, the numbers look like this:

RuleAvios for twoValue at 1.3 cents
Old rule7,152About $93
New rule22,632About $294

Your own value depends on how you spend the Avios. A short-haul off-peak Reward Flight, like the Paris example, can come in below or above our average.

Who gains the most

The biggest change is for the second traveler and anyone else on the booking. Under the old model, the extra bonus went only to the lead passenger. Now every traveler gets an equal share.

Packages with a pricey hotel part also gain more. The old model leaned on the flight. The new one counts the hotel and the rest of the package, too.

What to check before you book

  • Travel dates and booking dates. British Airways says the new rule launches on November 24, 2026. Check the terms on the British Airways Holidays site for how it treats bookings made before that date.
  • Club membership. Each traveler needs to be a British Airways Club member to collect a share.
  • Pooling. Set up the Household Account before you book if you want one shared balance.
  • The cash price. A package that earns more Avios is not a deal if a hotel and flight booked separately cost far less.

The bottom line

From November 24, a British Airways Holidays package earns 6 Avios per £1 on the full price, shared by everyone on the booking. In British Airways' own Crete example, that turns about 7,000 Avios into about 22,600. At our 1.3-cent estimate, that is close to 6% back in Avios on package spending.
