Amex Adds Airbnb to Amex Travel and Renames the Platinum Hotel Credit

Platinum members can now earn 5X points on prepaid Airbnb stays booked through Amex Travel. But from 2027, Fine Hotels and Resorts stays must be two nights to get the renamed Lodging Credit.

American Express and Airbnb have launched a new partnership. Announced on October 22, 2026, it puts more than 1 million Airbnb listings on AmexTravel.com and in the Amex Travel app. Along with it, Amex is changing how the Platinum Card's hotel credit works, and one change will make the credit harder to use for short stays.

What the partnership does

Card members can now search and book Airbnb stays through Amex Travel. According to the Amex press release, earning depends on the card.

  • Consumer and Business Platinum: 5X Membership Rewards points on prepaid Airbnb bookings made through Amex Travel.
  • Amex Green: 3X points on third-party travel sites, which include Airbnb.
  • Other Membership Rewards cards: 2X points.

Bookings still connect to Airbnb. Amex says guests manage the stay, including messages with the host, on the Airbnb platform.

NerdWallet notes one limit. You can't redeem Membership Rewards points for Airbnb stays through this partnership. It is a way to earn, not to spend.

The Hotel Credit is now the Lodging Credit

The Platinum Card's $600 Hotel Credit has a new name: the Lodging Credit. It is still worth up to $300 twice a year.

The new name reflects that some Airbnb stays now count. Prepaid bookings of two nights or more at Airbnb Luxe properties, made through Amex Travel, are eligible for the credit. Airbnb Luxe is Airbnb's high-end collection of homes, so this won't apply to most ordinary listings.

There is also a new $250 Airbnb Experiences credit. Amex says Platinum members unlock it after they make a prepaid Airbnb Luxe booking. It can be used through the end of that calendar year.

The catch for Fine Hotels and Resorts

The bigger change for many card members comes next year. Starting January 1, 2027, NerdWallet reports, Fine Hotels and Resorts bookings must be at least two nights to qualify for the Lodging Credit.

Today, a single prepaid night at a Fine Hotels and Resorts property can earn the credit. That has been a popular way to use $300 on a quick weekend trip. From 2027, that won't work.

The Hotel Collection already requires a two-night stay, so nothing changes there. And NerdWallet notes that one-night Fine Hotels and Resorts stays will still get the program's usual benefits. They just won't trigger the credit.

What this means for you

For most Platinum members, the Airbnb part is a nice extra. It adds a new way to earn 5X points on vacation rentals. But because only Luxe stays count toward the credit, many people will rarely use it for that.

The Fine Hotels and Resorts change matters more. If you like to use your credit on one-night stays, plan to use your remaining 2026 credits before the end of the year. After that, you will need to book at least two nights at a Fine Hotels and Resorts or Hotel Collection property, or a qualifying Airbnb Luxe stay, to get value from the Lodging Credit.

Both the Consumer and Business Platinum cards carry an $895 annual fee, according to NerdWallet. Changes like this one are worth weighing when your renewal comes up.
