A lap infant traveling with an adult on an Aeroplan Flight Reward still needs a separate ticket. Aeroplan's current policy sets no infant fare for travel wholly within Canada or between Canada and the United States. For other itineraries, it lists CAD25 or 2,500 points per direction. Applicable taxes, fees and charges can remain.
The policy covers infants under two who do not occupy a seat. It allows one such infant per adult, and partner-airline restrictions can apply. A child who turns two during the journey needs a seat and a Flight Reward reservation. These are details to settle before building a family trip around an adult's award result.
Search for the family you will actually take
Include every traveler and the correct dates of birth in the booking process. A result for one adult is not a complete price for the family. If the child needs a seat, do not use the lap-infant amount as an estimate of that seat's cost.
Keep the travel dates beside the child's birthday. A trip that crosses that birthday needs attention on both directions. Ask the booking program and operating airline how the ticket must be issued rather than relying on a general rule quoted in a discussion thread.
The Aeroplan program page provides a starting point for the points side. Our partner-award fee guide shows why a modest points quote may still leave a separate cash bill. The infant line belongs in that same family total.
Check each operating airline
An Aeroplan reservation can include another carrier. Record who operates every segment, not just the program that collected the points. Confirm that the infant appears on the issued itinerary and that all airlines involved have the information they require.
Our guide to reading the operating-airline field explains the same useful habit in another program. It does not supply Aeroplan's infant terms. Use Lounge Frog’s Air Canada directory for airline context and verify final travel arrangements with the carrier.
Compare cash and points on the same basis
In a hypothetical simple round trip where the stated other-itinerary fare applies both ways, the base infant fare would be CAD50 or 5,000 points, before applicable charges. That arithmetic does not price a more complex itinerary or override partner restrictions. Ask for the actual amount attached to your reservation.
Consider which balance you prefer to preserve. A low cash amount may be worth paying when points have a better planned use. Read the bank-to-Aeroplan transfer guide before moving a balance just for an infant charge. Transfers and ticketing are separate steps.
Make the airport and hotel work too
Plan a connection around the needs of the family rather than the most attractive lounge photo. The Toronto Pearson airport directory and Vancouver airport directory can help identify airport options, but the actual gate and boarding time remain central.
If a hotel is needed, compare the room's occupancy rules with the Hilton family-pooling guide or the hotel program you use. If the flight precedes a sailing, start with Cruise Frog’s family guide. Save the final ticket confirmation for every traveler. A low infant fare is useful only when the whole family has a valid and workable journey.
