Royal Jordanian is running a short hotel status match for its Royal Club program, and it ends Nov. 7, 2026. Hotel elites in the EU and UK can match to Gold Sparrow, the oneworld Sapphire tier, for a fee.

The official terms on the Royal Jordanian status match site say: "Royal Club Gold Hotel Status Match is available until November 7, 2026 to select mid and top tier hotel status holders residing in EU/UK that pay the application fee with a card issued in EU/UK." The terms list fees "from USD $149" for Gold and $49 for Silver.

Who can apply

According to the official terms:

  • You need mid-tier or top-tier status with an eligible hotel program.
  • You must live in the EU or UK and pay with a card issued there.
  • You get one status match per person, to either Gold Sparrow or Silver Jay.
  • If you have been approved for a Royal Club status match before, you can't get another.
  • Your name must match the name on your Royal Club account.

You apply through rj.statusmatch.com. The match is handled by StatusMatch.com, not by the airline.

Which hotel programs count

Head for Points lists these programs: Accor, GHA, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Langham, Marriott, Meliá, Preferred Hotels, Radisson, Shangri-La and Wyndham.

Head for Points also says entry-level hotel status works, at a higher price. Its breakdown:

Hotel statusRoyal Club tierFee, per Head for Points
Mid or top tierGold Sparrow$149
Entry tierGold Sparrow$248
Entry tierSilver Jay$49

The site points out that Radisson's base Club tier counts as entry status. That means a free Radisson Rewards signup could open the $248 route. Check the official form before you pay, since the fees and accepted tiers are set by StatusMatch.com and Royal Jordanian.

What Gold Sparrow gets you

Gold Sparrow is oneworld Sapphire. Head for Points says that when you fly British Airways, it gives you nearly all the perks of BA Silver:

  • BA lounge access for you and a guest
  • An extra checked bag
  • Business class check-in desks
  • Free seat selection
  • Priority boarding

The one big gap, per Head for Points, is BA's Fast Track security lane.

Sapphire status also works on other oneworld airlines, such as American, Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair and Qantas.

The fine print

The official terms add a few limits:

  • Status lasts 12 months. After that you must requalify under normal program rules.
  • Matched members get all benefits except upgrade vouchers.
  • Royal Club may take up to three business days after approval to show the new tier.
  • There is no physical status card.
  • The offer is limited and "may end at any time."

There is also a rule to note if you use your Royal Club number for oneworld perks on a partner flight. The terms say that flight's activity will be credited to your Royal Club account, and that it "cannot be removed, reversed, transferred, or credited to another frequent flyer program." In other words, a BA flight where you use RJ status will earn with Royal Club, not with the BA Club.

Keeping the status

Head for Points says it takes 26 one-way BA flights credited to Royal Club in 12 months, or 13 round trips, to requalify for Gold Sparrow. It calls Royal Club the easiest oneworld program for short-haul flyers to keep status with.

Should you do it?

For a European or UK traveler who flies BA a few times a year, $149 for a year of oneworld Sapphire lounge access is a strong deal. The cost of entry is giving up BA credit on the flights where you use RJ status.

The window is short. You have until Nov. 7, 2026.
