Transfer bonuses

Qatar's up-to-35% Avios bonus ends October 31, but the top rate needs one large transfer

The bonus has three tiers and is calculated per transaction. Its Doha-time deadline is earlier than midnight on the US East Coast.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club's October transfer promotion is nearing its deadline, and two details deserve attention before moving points: the bonus is tiered by transaction, and the deadline is in Doha time.

The official terms say the campaign ends October 31 at 23:59 GMT+3. That is 4:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, rather than midnight in New York. The terms list a 15% bonus below 50,000 base Avios, 25% from 50,000 to 99,999 and 35% at 100,000 or more.

Several small transfers do not make one large transfer

The bonus is calculated on each individual conversion, not the combined total moved during the campaign. Two transfers that each fall below the top threshold do not become one qualifying top-tier transaction.

As a simple illustration, a transaction producing 100,000 base Avios would generate 35,000 bonus Avios at the top rate. That calculation uses Avios received before the bonus, not an assumption that every partner transfers at one point to one Avios.

Check the conversion ratio for your own partner. A percentage bonus can sound attractive while still producing a different result from the same number of points transferred elsewhere.

The partner must be on the list

The campaign applies to participating partners, not every program that can transfer points into an Avios-related account. Use the list and terms on Qatar's page rather than assume a familiar bank is included.

The terms say bonus Avios will be credited by November 30 and that completed conversions are not reversible. Those details matter if you need the bonus to book an award immediately.

Our advice is to separate the base transfer's timing from the bonus posting deadline. Do not plan a time-sensitive booking as if both amounts are guaranteed to arrive together.

Search for the trip before transferring

A bonus creates more Avios; it does not create an award seat. Search the actual dates and number of passengers, and check the cash charges attached to the award before making a transfer decision.

Compare the full result with keeping the original points for another use. Include the alternative you would realistically book, rather than a theoretical high-value redemption that has no seats.

If the trip only works with the bonus already in the account, the stated posting window is a real constraint. Consider that before turning flexible points into a more specific currency.

Do not chase a tier with unnecessary points

Crossing a threshold can improve the rate, but the extra transfer should still serve a travel plan. Moving more points than needed simply to receive a higher percentage can leave a balance without a useful purpose.

Write down the required award amount, the base Avios expected from the conversion and the eventual bonus separately. That makes it easier to see whether the timing and quantity fit.

We checked the published terms on October 30. The immediate news is the approaching deadline and the transaction-level tiers, not a promise that every transfer is good value.
