Air Canada's October Marriott Bonvoy conversion promotion is approaching its final day. The campaign's own example makes the arithmetic clearer than the headline percentage: 60,000 Marriott points can produce 28,750 Aeroplan points.
The Air Canada campaign email archived by Milled shows 20,000 points from the standard conversion, a 5,000-point Marriott conversion extra and a 3,750-point promotional bonus. It advertises an October 31 end date.
The hotel balance and airline balance use different units
The example does not mean 60,000 hotel points become 60,000 airline points plus a bonus. The underlying conversion ratio comes first. The campaign then applies its 15% bonus to the eligible airline-point amount in the example.
That distinction helps avoid a common comparison error: looking only at percentage bonuses across programs that start from different conversion ratios.
For the published example, dividing 60,000 by 28,750 gives about 2.09 Marriott points spent for each Aeroplan point eventually received. That is arithmetic, not a valuation of either currency or a recommendation to transfer.
Check the conditions before the deadline
The campaign email includes its terms below the offer. Read them alongside Marriott's program rules for airline conversions. Marriott says airline conversions can take time and that points ordered into an airline program cannot be re-credited as hotel points.
Do not interpret the promotional deadline as a promise of immediate arrival. A transfer submitted near the end of an offer also needs to meet that offer's own timing conditions.
If the transaction is important to a booking, ask the relevant program about any unclear timing before submitting it. Save the offer and confirmation with the transaction record.
Compare the hotel stay you give up
Our advice is to evaluate the transfer against a realistic use of the hotel points. If those points would cover a stay you need, their opportunity cost is the hotel bill you would otherwise pay.
Compare that with the airline award's total cash charges and the fare you would actually buy. Do not value the airline ticket using a much more expensive fare you would never choose.
The result can differ between two travelers holding the same balance. Someone close to a specific award may find a use that another person with no airline plan does not have.
Award availability comes first
Search for the intended flight and the number of seats required. A conversion promotion does not reserve those seats or protect their price while points move.
If you need the promotional amount to complete the booking, allow for the bonus's posting conditions as well as the base transfer. Avoid treating an eventual total as though it is already available.
An October Reddit notice also surfaced the offer, but the campaign email provides the example and terms used here. We checked those sources on October 30.
The deadline makes this timely; it does not make the transfer automatically worthwhile. Review the actual award, the hotel alternative and the transaction timing before deciding. See Points Frog news for other offers that may fit a different trip.
