Capital One miles get a 20% bonus to British Airways Avios through October 31

British Airways says Capital One transfers to Avios earn an extra 20% from October 1 to October 31, 2026, so 1,000 miles become 1,200 Avios.

Capital One miles are worth 20% more when you move them to British Airways for the rest of October. The British Airways Club page for its lifestyle and finance partners says Capital One cardholders "receive an exclusive 20% bonus" when they transfer miles to Avios by October 31, 2026.

The terms on British Airways' partner page say the offer runs from 12:00 a.m. ET on October 1 to 11:59 p.m. ET on October 31. The normal rate is one Avios per mile. With the bonus, 1,000 Capital One miles become 1,200 Avios.

How the numbers work

The bonus is simple to model. Here are a few examples at the bonus rate:

  • 10,000 Capital One miles become 12,000 Avios.
  • 25,000 Capital One miles become 30,000 Avios.
  • 50,000 Capital One miles become 60,000 Avios.

To work backward from an award, divide the Avios you need by 1.2. A 30,000-Avios award needs 25,000 Capital One miles instead of 30,000. That saves 5,000 miles, or about 17% of what you would have moved at the normal rate.

British Airways lists a few rules for these transfers. Transfers start at 1,000 miles and go up in steps of 100 miles. Your Capital One account must be open and in good standing. You must already be a member of The British Airways Club before you send the miles. Capital One may ask for an extra two-step check. All transfers are final, and once the Avios land, the British Airways Club rules apply to them.

Who should use it

The bonus is most useful if you already have a British Airways award in mind. Avios awards on short flights can be cheap, and British Airways also sells business class awards across the Atlantic. Taxes and carrier charges on British Airways tickets can be high, so price the full award, including the cash part, before you move a single mile.

It also helps to check that the seats are there first. Search for the exact flight in your British Airways Club account. If the award is open, move only the miles you need, plus a small buffer for the 100-mile steps. Then book right away, since award seats can disappear.

Do not move miles just because a bonus exists. Capital One miles can go to many airline and hotel partners, as our Capital One miles page shows. Once they become Avios, they follow British Airways Club rules and can't come back. If you have no trip planned, the miles keep more options open where they are.

Where this fits

Points Frog tracks offers like this one on its transfer bonus page. You can also see how we value Avios on our British Airways Club page. This is not the only bonus live this month. American Express is running a 25% bonus to Air France-KLM Flying Blue, which we covered earlier in October.

Capital One has offered a similar British Airways bonus before. There is no promise it will come back, though. If you know you will need Avios for a trip soon, October is a good time to act.

My take

I would only use this bonus for a trip I can book today. Twenty percent is a solid boost, but British Airways fees can eat into it on some routes. Check the cash portion of the award before you transfer, and move the miles in one go.
