Velocity calls these some of the biggest credit card Status Credit offers in the program's history.\n\nVelocity announced the offers on Oct. 26, 2026. They give Australian members a way to move toward elite status without stepping on a plane.\n\n## The three card offers\n\nAccording to the Velocity release, members can earn Status Credits through three cards:\n\n* **American Express Velocity Platinum Card:** up to 100 Status Credits and 50,000 bonus Velocity Points\n* **Virgin Money Velocity High Flyer Credit Card:** up to 100 Status Credits and 100,000 bonus Velocity Points\n* **Virgin Money Velocity Flyer Credit Card:** up to 50 Status Credits\n\nAll of these offers come with conditions. Read the full terms before you apply. Dollar amounts in this story are in Australian dollars.\n\n## How the High Flyer offer works\n\nThe terms in the release give the most detail on the Virgin Money Velocity High Flyer card. The offer started on Oct. 1, 2026, and is for newly approved cardholders.\n\nYou earn 40,000 bonus Velocity Points for each month you spend $3,500 or more on eligible purchases during the first 60 days. A further 20,000 bonus points are available after 12 months. To get the 100 Status Credits, you need to meet the spend for 80,000 bonus points. Velocity says the Status Credits are credited within 30 days and expire 12 months after they are earned.\n\n## The Flyer and Amex offers\n\nThe Virgin Money Velocity Flyer card offers up to 70,000 bonus points. You earn 25,000 points for each month you spend $1,500 or more in the first 60 days, plus 20,000 more at the anniversary. You need to earn 50,000 of those bonus points to get the 50 Status Credits.\n\nFor the American Express Velocity Platinum Card, the terms in the release describe 50,000 bonus points for spending $5,000 in the first three months. The card has a $440 annual fee. The terms say you are not eligible if you have held an American Express card issued in Australia in the past 18 months.\n\n## Other ways to earn Status Credits on the ground\n\nVelocity also pointed to two existing ways to build Status Credits without flying:\n\n* **Flybuys:** Members who link Velocity and Flybuys can earn up to 120 Status Credits a year on eligible purchases at Coles, Coles Online and Liquorland.\n* **Family Pooling:** Eligible family members at the same address can direct newly earned Points, or Points and Status Credits, to one member's account.\n\n## How far 100 Status Credits gets you\n\nVelocity's release lists its tier thresholds:\n\n* Silver: 250 Status Credits to attain, 200 to maintain\n* Gold: 500 to attain, 400 to maintain\n* Platinum: 1,000 to attain, 800 to maintain\n* Platinum Plus: 2,000 to attain and maintain\n\nVelocity compares these with its major competitor, which it says needs 300 for Silver, 700 for Gold, 1,400 for Platinum and 3,600 for its top tier.\n\nA 100 Status Credit bonus covers 40% of the climb to Silver. That is a meaningful head start, but it is not status on its own. Velocity's rules also require a share of Status Credits to come from Virgin Australia flights, so cards alone will not get you there.\n\n## What Velocity's CEO said\n\n\"Most people think they have to spend a lot of time on planes to earn airline Status, but there are plenty of ways Velocity members can give their balance a boost on the ground,\" said Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO Andrew Cleary in the release.\n\nHe called the High Flyer offer \"a market-leading offer and one of the biggest Status Credit offers Velocity has ever made available through a credit card.\"\n\n## What this means for you\n\nIf you live in Australia and fly Virgin Australia, these offers can speed up your path to status. The High Flyer card has the largest combined points and Status Credit package.\n\nThe spend hurdles are steep, though. Meeting $3,500 a month for two months is a lot for many households. And Status Credits from these offers expire after 12 months, so time your application around your status year.\n\n## Sources\n\n* [Velocity Frequent Flyer release: Velocity raises credit card stakes in 100 Status Credit offer](https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/newsroom/2026/10/hot-chips-at-35000-feet-virgin-australia-serves-up-innovative-new-inflight-menu/velocity-frequent-flyer-raises-credit-card-stakes-in-100-status-credit-offer/)","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"}]}
