A calculator called [Is he out there?](https://www.pointsfrog.com/is-he-out-there) puts a number on it. Pick an age range, income, race or ethnicity, relationship status, height and build. It then estimates how many US men or women aged 18 to 80 match. As the page puts it, there are no scores and no judgment, just the numbers.\n\nThe figures come from the Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey and the CDC's National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The calculator's starting example is a man aged 25 to 35 who is not married, earns $100,000 or more a year and stands 6′0″ or taller. About 0.24% of US men aged 18 to 80 fit. That is roughly 310,000 people, or 1 in 410. Among men aged 25 to 35 alone, it's 1 in 84.\n\n[Try the calculator on Points Frog](https://www.pointsfrog.com/is-he-out-there)\n\n## How a list narrows\n\nThe calculator shows how each item on a list shrinks the group in turn. For the starting example:","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"},{"role":"htmltable","html":"<table><tr><th>Step</th><th>US men who fit</th><th>Share of men 18–80</th></tr><tr><td>All US men 18–80</td><td>126 million</td><td>100%</td></tr><tr><td>Aged 25–35</td><td>25.8 million</td><td>20%</td></tr><tr><td>Not married</td><td>16.3 million</td><td>13%</td></tr><tr><td>Earns $100k+</td><td>1.8 million</td><td>1.4%</td></tr><tr><td>6′0″ or taller</td><td>310,000</td><td>0.24%</td></tr></table>","layout":"text"},{"role":"body","format":"markdown","text":"It also names the item that narrows a list the most. Here it is income. Without the $100,000 floor, about 9.1 times as many men would fit.\n\nThe same list works for women. Using the calculator's own tables and formula, women aged 25 to 35 who are not married and earn $100,000 or more make up about 0.85% of US women aged 18 to 80. That is about 1.1 million women, or 1 in 120. Among women aged 25 to 35, it's 1 in 23.\n\n## One trait at a time\n\nHere are some base rates from the calculator's data, for US adults aged 18 to 80.\n\nHeight: about 15% of men are 6′0″ or taller, measured without shoes in the CDC survey. Younger men are a little taller on average.\n\nIncome: about 20% of men and 11% of women had personal income of $100,000 or more in 2024. That counts income from all sources before tax, not household income.\n\nBuild: 60% of men and 59% of women are not obese, meaning a body mass index under 30. A visible six pack is far rarer. Among people aged 18 to 29, about 1.1% of men and 0.17% of women have body fat low enough on a body scan for abs to usually show. That means 15% or less for men and 22% or less for women.\n\nHome: about 4.5% of men own the home they live in and say it's worth $1,000,000 or more.\n\nRelationship status: of US men aged 25 to 35, 63% are not married.\n\n## What the numbers don't say\n\nThe calculator counts people. It doesn't grade anyone's standards, and it says nothing about who is single and looking or would be a good match. \"Not married\" counts people who are single, divorced or widowed. That includes people in a relationship or living with a partner, while separated people count as married. So the number of people actually available is lower.\n\nSome items are modeled rather than counted. Height is fitted with a bell curve by sex, race and age group. The fit lands close to the measured share of men 6′0″ or taller: 15.3% modeled against 14.8% measured. Height and build are assumed to be unrelated to income and relationship status within each group. The six-pack share rests on only about 170 men and 40 women who were that lean in body scans, so it is rough. Very narrow lists rest on few survey responses, and the calculator warns when a count is shaky.\n\nOne option, \"can afford business class and luxury shopping,\" counts as personal income of $250,000 or more. The page says that budget covers about two business-class round trips to Europe, around $12,000, and about $12,000 of luxury shopping a year. That keeps the spending to roughly 10% of pre-tax income.\n\n## Where the figures come from\n\nAge, income, race and relationship status come from the Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey microdata. That is 2.6 million survey records of adults aged 18 to 80, weighted to represent 255 million people. It includes people in college dorms, military barracks and nursing homes. Height comes from CDC exams in 2017–2020 and 2021–2023, where about 15,000 adults were measured. Obesity uses measured height and weight from 2017–2023 exams. The six-pack measure uses whole-body DXA scans from 2011–2018.\n\n## Use it on your own site\n\nThe calculator is free to embed on a blog or site with copy-and-paste code, with no ads or tracking.
