The Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard and the CitiBusiness / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard both gain new earning categories and new statement credits. They also get a higher annual fee.\n\nThe banks announced the changes on Oct. 27, 2026. The new benefits take effect for existing cardmembers on Jan. 24, 2027.\n\n## The annual fee goes up to $150\n\nThe biggest catch is the price. According to the Citi press release, the annual fee on these cards is $99 as of Oct. 27, 2026. It rises to $150 as of Jan. 24, 2027. Citi says the fee is waived for the first 12 months.\n\nWhether the higher fee pays off depends on how many of the new credits you will actually use.\n\n## What changes on the Platinum Select card\n\nThe consumer Platinum Select card picks up several new ways to earn miles:\n\n* 3X miles on AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings\n* 2X miles at gas stations, including EV charging\n* 2X miles on select streaming services\n* 2X miles on \"Rides and Rails\" purchases\n\nIt also adds new perks:\n\n* A $150 American Airlines Flight Discount, up from $125, after you spend $20,000 in a cardmember year and renew the card\n* Up to $120 in statement credits for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck every four years\n* Up to $100 per year in statement credits for inflight purchases\n* A complimentary annual Walmart+ membership for the primary cardmember, which Citi values at $98\n* 50% off an annual FOX One subscription\n* New travel protections\n\nThe card keeps its existing core benefits. That includes 2X miles on American Airlines purchases and at restaurants, and 1X on everything else. You still earn 1 Loyalty Point for every eligible AAdvantage mile earned on purchases. The release also lists up to $180 a year in Turo credits ($30 per trip), 10% off American Airlines Vacations packages, preferred boarding, a first checked bag free on domestic American itineraries for you and up to four companions, and no foreign transaction fees.\n\n## What changes on the CitiBusiness card\n\nThe business version gets a similar refresh, with a few small-business twists:\n\n* 3X miles on AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings\n* 2X miles in one self-selected category: U.S. shipping, office supply stores or U.S. advertising\n* Up to $120 in Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credits\n* Up to $100 per year in inflight statement credits\n* 25% off with Melio, a business payments platform\n* New travel protections\n\nExisting earning stays in place. That includes 2X miles on American Airlines purchases, car rentals, gas stations and telecommunications, cable and satellite providers. Cardmembers earn 1 Loyalty Point per $1 spent. Citi says the primary cardmember also earns 1 additional Loyalty Point per $1 spent by authorized users through Dec. 31, 2028. The $99 companion certificate remains, earned after $30,000 in spending and renewal.\n\n## Why this matters for AAdvantage members\n\nThese cards have long been the mid-tier AAdvantage option. They sit between the no-fee and premium cards. The refresh moves them closer to a travel card with credits that offset the fee, rather than a simple checked-bag card.\n\nFor a frequent American flyer, the math could work. The flight discount, the inflight credit and the Global Entry or PreCheck credit together could cover the $150 fee in a good year. Walmart+ and FOX One add value only if you would pay for them anyway.\n\nFor a cardholder who mostly kept the card for the free bag, the jump from $99 to $150 is real. Those members should weigh the new perks against the higher cost before their next renewal.\n\nKiki Del Valle, executive vice president of U.S. market development at Mastercard, is quoted in the release supporting the update. Citi has posted details for current cardmembers on its refresh pages.\n\n## Early buzz on X\n\nThe revamp drew quick attention on X, where Doctor of Credit flagged both the consumer and business updates.\n\n<https://x.com/Drofcredit/status/2115118969874964654>\n\n<https://x.com/Drofcredit/status/2115122745230975153>\n\n## Sources\n\n* [Citi press release: American Airlines and Citi enhance AAdvantage Platinum Select and Business cards](https://www.citigroup.com/global/news/press-release/2026/american-airlines-citi-enhance-aadvantage-platinum-select-business-world-elite-mastercard)\n* [Citi Platinum Select refresh details](https://citicards.citi.com/usc/aaplatinumrefresh)\n* [CitiBusiness Platinum Select refresh details](https://citicards.citi.com/usc/aabusinessrefresh)","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"}]}
